Overview
Frank's is a chain of high-end perfumery stores in Malta, established since 1893. It started as 'Franks Bazaar' in Cospicua and has grown to be considered the largest perfumery chain in Malta. The company stocks popular world-renowned brands in the beauty industry.
History
Frank's was established in 1893 when Salvatore Abela opened his first shop on Cospicua Waterfront. Originally selling shaving accessories from a cart, he was nicknamed 'Frank' because his name was difficult to pronounce. In 1915, his son Vincent opened his own store in Valletta, and after legal issues, named one of his sons Frank to resolve the naming conflict. In 1945, Vincent's son Joseph took over the business, focusing on import and wholesale distribution of luxury goods. In 1979, Lauro Abela, Joseph's son, started working in the company and oversaw a total rebuilding of the Valletta shop, establishing FRANKS as a top retailer of luxury fragrances and cosmetics. In 1993, Franks was approached to set up a perfumery in The Plaza Shopping Centre in Sliema.
