Herr's is a snack brand produced by Herr Foods Inc. According to the company's official website, its story began in 1946 when 21-year-old James Stauffer Herr bought a small potato chip company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for $1,750. The company describes itself as a family owned and operated business and states that since 1946 it has been making snacks. Its product range shown on the official homepage includes potato chips, cheese curls, kettle cooked potato chips, popcorn, tortilla chips and pretzels.

According to the official Herr Foods Inc. history page, the company's story began in 1946 when 21-year-old James Stauffer Herr bought a small potato chip company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for $1,750. In 1947, the business moved into a vacated tobacco shed on the Herr family farm. In the spring of 1949, Jim located a 3,600-square-foot bakery facility available for rent in West Willow, Pennsylvania, which along with an adjacent house became workplace and home for Jim and his wife Mim. On September 5, 1951, a fire broke out in the plant and the potato chip factory was consumed by the fire. In 1952, with help from family, friends and the bank, the Herrs bought 37 acres and built a new 4,500-square-foot plant, equipped with its first automated cooker.

  Herr's, a Chester County-based snack foods manufacturer, opened submissions on Oct. 12, 2026 for the sixth annual 'Flavored by Philly' contest, inviting the public to nominate Philadelphia-area restaurants, dining establishments, and food companies whose best-known dishes could become potato chip flavors. The nomination period runs through Nov. 2; the top three nominations will be sold in stores next summer and compete in an eight-week public vote, with a $5,000 prize for the winning nominator and $10,000 for the business that inspired the chip.
